1st Linked Production Tutorial

Your chosen brief is achievable and fits your critical investigation very well. The style of media text you are aiming for has distinct conventions which you should be able to recreate. However, television has incredibly high production values which creates a real challenge: the standard demanded for the A2 production is extremely high and you need to ensure the camerawork, sound, script and presentation approach professional standards.

Your blog contains some excellent planning – you’ve clearly researched similar reports and these look absolutely right for what you are trying to create. The production schedule is very comprehensive and outlines each stage of the project impressively. However, you haven’t approached me for interview yet!

In terms of the script, I’d make a few suggested changes…
  1.  you don’t need the very opening bit and in the middle it becomes very opinionated. This isn’t right for Newsnight – the BBC is famously impartial – so you should leave opinion to your interviewees.
  2.  Along similar lines, I would try and break up your interviews so it’s not as divided up as it is currently – instead, focus on a particular issue and then run quotes from various people that answer that point. It’s probably worth us going through the script on paper to discuss any further changes required.

The rest of the planning is comprehensive – mise-en-scene etc. You’ve clearly thought about this in detail and hopefully that will result in a strong, professional production.

Post these tutorial notes to your MEST4 coursework blog as a new blogpost.

The rough cut deadline is Wednesday 22 March – make sure you are on track to meet this deadline.

After pasting these notes in your blogpost, write a numbered list of THREE things you will do in the next seven days in order to move your Linked Production project to the next level.

My 3 targets...

-- Make the suggested improvements to my script to ensure that it is shorter in length and impartial given that it is a BBC based program.

-- Continue with my editing working towards rough cut deadline next week

-- Continue work on my critical investigation, to move the level up ensuring I bring through my bibliography
