About the film - Brief Synopsis
Dominic and his crew thought they
had left their criminal lives behind after they defeated international
terrorist Owen Shaw and went their separate ways. HOWEVER... Owens’s brother
Deckard Shaw is here for revenge planning to kill each and every one of the
crew that took down his brother. So... Hobbs and Toretto’s teams work together to
bring down Deckard. BUT... that is amidst the problem of a Somalian terrorist Jakarde and another government
official competing to steal a computer terrorism program called ‘God’s Eye’
that can do some serious damage....
I am looking at the negative representation of females and specifically how in Fast 7
are objectified.
"Furious 7, is a pile of crap. Sorry that's not quite right. This film is a stinking pile of crap"
"Why? It's a Road Runner cartoon masquerading as a movie"
The Sydeney Morning Herald
In my opinion, I don't think that this representation of woman is fair as it places a wide netted representation over all woman which isn't true. For instance, these photographs show woman starting a car race in bikini's/extremely short skirts which is not accurate as when you place a realistic standpoint on the matter " What woman go to a car race in such clothes. Moreover, throughout the film the camera shots used at such scenes tend to linger on the females curves and consist of close up and similar shots that focus on the females anatomy that we would typically expect to be concealed. I think that the woman are essentially being represented as sex objects through the choice of dress.

REVIEWS
"Furious 7 is another solid Fast and the Furious installment - one that (flaws aside) provides a nice farewell to star Paul Walker"
Sandy Schaefer
"The director, James Wan, sends cars repeatedly airborne and seems himself to marvel at the results; the movie's real subject is the stunt work, but its stars' authentic chemistry lends melody to its relentless beat."
Richard Brody (Rotten Tomatoes) "Furious 7, is a pile of crap. Sorry that's not quite right. This film is a stinking pile of crap"

The Sydeney Morning Herald
"The action comes so fast and furious in Furious 7 that, for all the
explosions and overturned cars and missiles fired on downtown Los Angeles, it
becomes a dull muddle. Here and there, we get the imaginative and outrageous
stunts this series is famous for, but mostly the movie plods along, muscling
through without much life or spirit."

Media Representations
- Who is being represented? In what way? By whom?
- Why is the subject being represented in this way?
- Is the representation fair and accurate? (SEE ABOVE, IMAGES OF WOMAN FROM FILM)
- What opportunities exist for self-representation by the subject?
1) In the entire film, there are many different people represented, but I'm focusing on woman and their negative representation. The film represents woman in both a positive and negative way. Positive = Dominant, strong headed and inderpendant individuals who can defend themselves. Negative = Tight, figure hugging clothing and bikini's to start races.
2) I think that the woman are represented in this way simply to pull in a larger male audience, the woman are represented in such a way that the camera lingers on the curves of the woman and the camera shots pay particular attention the the females legs and bust area in many close up shots: This links to Laura Mulvey's Male Gaze.
4) I noticed one or two instances where the woman in the film dress in bikini's etc as they want to be seen as they are which the opportunity of self representation. For example, one being at the scene of the Abu Dhabi party of the dancers painted in gold.

Genre
- The film belongs to the Action, Crime and Thriller genres.
- Throughout the film franchise, there has been a total of 4 directors, Rob Cohen (The Fast and The Furious), John Singleton (2 Fast 2 Furious), Justin Lin (The Fast and The Furious 3-6) and James Wan (Furious 7). All four directors are known for films relating to one or more of the three genre titles such as Four Brothers - Action & Crime (Singleton), Miami Vice - Action and Crime (Cohen), Better Luck Tomorrow - Crime (Lin) and The Conjuring - Thriller (Wan). All four directors have an association to the genre in that they are all known for creating explosive and high octane films that definitely have been noticed by an extremely wide audience. Singleton also produced a all rounder film that fits into all three of the genres from the Furious franchise called Shaft. Also, in terms of the stars of the film they all associate with the genre quite well in that they all have previously been known for action and adventure films.
