Mr Halsey feedback

  • Solid opening but could be a little more confident 
  • Audience distracted by the professional Ignite template! Handled well and clearly rehearsal has taken place
  • Structure addresses media concepts but I wonder whether more focus on media issue early on would have added clarity
  • Representation is brought in midway through and this is the strongest part so far - brilliant statistics and great to see passion and opinion coming through 
  • Impact on audience is addressed briefly - need more on this for critical investigation
  • Wrong version of presentation! This is a problem and freezes up rather than continuing. Recovers well by returning to previous slide and showing fair knowledge of the film
  • Lack of final slides really reduces impact of presentation and need much more on the media issues and debates
  • Q+A - Good focused question on audience effects and vital to the debate. Answer is quite hesitant but there is an opinion there although needs more depth and clarity. So much more we could say in terms of recent debate, rap culture etc. 
  • Good question - is this merely a case of Hollywood satisfying male audience expectations? Answer is good - clearly something considered as part of research

WWW: I demonstrated good understanding of the film and representations of woman. I answered the questions from Q+A with good explanations and clear evidence from my presentation. Many areas to cover in the critical investigation are addressed and so clear understanding into the deeper elements of the film and how they link with my issue that I am exploring.

EBI: Ensure that my presentation is the correct one!, make sure that all the slides work. More importantly, I researched into the film well and should be more confident in the answers that I give to people when asked about it in regards to my critical investigation. I also need to make sure that for the critical investigation I address audience properly and the bits that did not save for the presentation. Because I have done such a mainstream movie and topic I need to ensure that my write up has solid theory links etc in order to lift my critical investigation.

Critical Investigation Tutorial (23rd November)

  Notes & Quotes document currently around 2-3,000 (work spread over different blog posts) – meets previous deadline but probably not the latest 4,500 requirement. Largely due to lost work needing to be re-done – frustrating! Always back your work up somewhere – blog, school drive etc. In terms of what you’ve got so far, fantastic selection of academic texts – this is one of the best N&Q documents I’ve seen so far in terms of book research. We now want to develop this with web sources and academic journal articles on the M: drive.
